Mama Guido's Meatballs

2# ground beef
1 cup firm, torn bread
1/2 cup milk
1 yellow onion, diced
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbls chopped parsley
1 tsp crushed red pepper
3 tbls pine nuts
3 tbls currants
2 tbls fennel fronds chopped (optional)
2 tbls chopped oregano
salt and pepper to taste

Soak the bread with the milk for 15 minutes. Saute onions and garlic with olive until soft. Let cool. Add remaining ingredients, mix well. Roll into 1 inch balls and saute in olive oil or cook in a light tomato sauce and serve over polenta.
