Food : ecology : culture
True Grass Farms is an active leader in the carbon farm planning movement.
We graze our animals for ecological benefits on coastal prairie and oak savanna, while collaborating with Point Blue Conservation Science who helps monitor our grasslands and grazing protocols.
We are part of the California Healthy Soil initiative with over 4 acres of oak and chestnut Sylvopasture, 1 mile of hedgerow for wildlife and pollinator habitat and multi-acre compost application on our home base in Tomales, California.
Our goal is to restore your connection to land through transparency and ecological mindfulness while feeding our community.
Ecologically Diversified Agriculture
True Grass Farms is implementing conservation practices including hedgerow plantings, compost application, prescribed grazing, riparian reforestation, and sylvopasture; that sequester carbon at an estimated rate of 56.9 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.
These practices help promote soil health, water retention capacity of our soil, water quality, improved nutrient cycling and help keep us producing quality local food for our region. They also provide essential ecosystem services, reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs), and mitigate the impacts of climate change
We commit ourselves to maintaining healthy pastureland by embracing a process of regenerative adaptive grazing that depends upon the stewardship of a natural ecosystem….
A Sense of place
Understanding where we live is a very important foundation for what we do here at True Grass Farms. This page helps explore the history of the land and the evolutionary processes that have brought us to make the management decisions we have for the health of our ecology and our community.
